About Flock Vet Finder
Our mission
Flock Vet Finder exists to help backyard flock keepers find veterinarians who actually treat chickens. Too many keepers find out the vet down the road won't see a hen only when a bird is already sick. We want that search to take minutes, not a dozen phone calls.
Where listings come from
Every current listing is transcribed from a public list published by a state agriculture department or a university extension service:
- Utah Department of Agriculture and Food: Veterinarians for Backyard Poultry (not dated on page)
- UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCCE): Who to Contact in Case of Poultry Issues (not dated on page; vets self-identified, not endorsed by UCCE)
- NC Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services Veterinary Division: NC PREP Veterinary Clinics (not dated on page; not exhaustive, not endorsed)
- Maine Dept. of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry: Backyard poultry veterinarians (PDF) (file dated 06/24/2024)
- Michigan Dept. of Agriculture & Rural Development: Poultry Vet Contact Sheet (PDF) (sheet marked 07-25)
- Wisconsin DATCP: Small Flock Poultry Veterinarian List (PDF) (revised 3-2025)
- Ohio State University Extension (Summit County): Veterinarians Providing Poultry Services (PDF) (entries 'confirmed in February 2021')
Each listing links back to its source and shows that list's date and the date we copied it. The agencies don't endorse the vets on their lists, and neither do we. We don't copy data from other private directories.
How verification works
- Not yet confirmed until checked. Every listing starts out labeled "From public list, not yet confirmed" with a Phone-confirmed: not yet badge.
- Website-checked. For listings with a website, we read the clinic's own homepage and service pages and quote what they say about chickens, sick visits, farm calls, after-hours care, prices and new clients, with a link to each page. These listings carry a Website-checked Oct 21, 2026 badge. A website check is not a phone confirmation.
- Dated badges. When a clinic has been called and has answered the questions in our phone checklist, the listing gets a Phone-confirmed on [date] badge and a "last verified" date.
- Unknown means unknown. Details we haven't checked show as "unknown," not as yes or no. These are: sick visits or wellness only, new poultry clients, farm calls, after-hours care, exam price, and whether the vet will prescribe for poultry.
- Always call first. Even confirmed details can change, so phone the clinic before you go.
Suggest a vet or a correction
Know a vet who sees chickens, or spotted something out of date? Email flockvetfinder@gmail.com, or use the template on our suggest a vet page. We publish clinic details only, never your name or email.
Free to use
Flock Vet Finder is free. If we add product links or sponsorships in the future, they will be clearly labeled, and listings will never be paid placements without a label. There are no affiliate links today.
